Schizachyrium scoparium 'Cairo' is a dense, slowly spreading, clump-forming, deciduous, perennial grass with erect stems bearing linear, blue-green leaves turning maroon to reddish-brown in autumn and, from late summer into autumn, narrow racemes of yellow-green flower spikelets followed by fluffy, silvery-white seed heads.
